East Kilbride Lawn Tennis Club

The club championships got underway this week.
Unfortunately, so did the “monsoon like” weather with all four courts being flooded on Tuesday 19th August evening.
Some matches have been played however despite the wet weather.
Summary so far:
Gents Doubles
Wednesday
Brian and Sean ran out 2-1 winners against Colin and Michael.
Thursday
Des and Duncan ran out 2-1 winners against Alastair and Fergal
Singles
Colin , Alastair and Duncan went through to the next round.
Mixed Doubles
Saturday
Stevie and Lee won in straight sets against Colin and Mandy.

We are planning to have a fundraising Frog Race evening on Friday 19th September 7.30pm-12.

The funds raised will help go towards the replacement of the existing ageing floodlights.

Would members please purchase a frog (only £2) during the club championships
and come along to the evening if you can to support the club.

We plan to have a fun tennis afternoon on Saturday 30th August at 1pm.

Everyone particularly new members are welcome to join in the fun tennis activities.

The draw has been made for this years club championships.

The draw will be posted on our noticeboard on Saturday 16th evening.

Could participating players please check the draw for their matches and make arrangements for the tie to be played by the due date given.

It is the responsibility of the player(s) on the bottom half of the tie to contact his/her opponent(s).

The Gents first team ran out 9-2 winners away to Helensburgh 2 on Friday 25th July.
Stephen McGhie and Des Boyd won all three of their sets with Stevie Mitchell/Peter Stewart and Colin Magee/Allan McLellan winning 2 sets each.
This final match meant that the Gents 1st team were undefeated in this seasons campaign and go up as champions with a 72 set total.

Excellent tennis from Cameron Lang, Stewart and Duncan Forbes and Sean Quigley proved too much for Whitecraigs to handle. The match resulted in an 8-0 win to East Kilbride.

The Ladies 1st team lost to Next Generation on Tuesday 3rd June with no rest after a match the previous night. Gillian Cloney and Jennifer Hutchison took East Kilbride’s only 2 sets of the evening against a strong side. The team was as follows: Gillian Cloney, Jennifer Hutchison, Jane Lees, Julie Weanie, Connie Charciewicz and Judy Kirkwood.

With the return of Susan Weanie to the team, the Ladies 1st team won convincingly away at Newlands on 2nd June. Jennifer Hutchison and Gillian Cloney took 3 sets, as did Jane Lees and Susan Weanie. Judy Kirkwood and Connie Charciewicz

The Ladies 1st team won 6-3 against Kirktonhill at home on Thursday 29th May. Jennifer Hutchison and Gillian Cloney won 3 sets at 1st couple, Jane Lees and Judy Kirkwood took 2 sets at 2nd couple and Julie Weanie and Connie Charciewicz won a set at 3rd.
